GJ Rockies players, staff pitch in on Lunch Lizard’s Clifton route this Friday

Clifton, CO – Kids will get an extra treat with their lunches this Friday, July 22, when Grand Junction Rockies players and front office staff join the Lunch Lizard summer food service route in Clifton!

The GJ Rockies will volunteer with the Lunch Lizard at the following stops on Friday:

  • Long’s Park Grand Mesa shelter, 3118 E½ Road – 10:45–11:05 a.m.
  • Applewood Estates playground, by the office at 510 31½ Road – 11:10-11:30 a.m.
  • The Clifton Elementary Gazebo at 3276 F Road – 11:40 to 11:55 a.m.
  • Mesa Avenue Park at 3216 Mesa Ave. – 12:10 to 12:35 p.m.

Kids can meet and take photos with the Rockies while also picking up a free, nutritious lunch from the Lunch Lizard. As is the case every Friday, Lunch Lizard participants will also have a chance to pick up a bag of nonperishable groceries for the weekend from Kids Aid and receive free ice cream from Meadow Gold.

The Lunch Lizard depends on volunteers like the Grand Junction Rockies to deliver food to local students who may otherwise go hungry during the summer months. Media are invited to come to any or all of the stops this Friday and see the Rockies in action helping our community!

About the Lunch Lizard: The district’s two Lunch Lizard mobile food trucks deliver free summer meals through the USDA’s Summer Food Service Program. The program runs through July 29 and is open to all children 18 or younger. Funding for the purchase of the Lunch Lizard trucks was provided by the Western Colorado Community Foundation, Rocky Mountain Health Plans, the Grand Junction Lions Club, Colorado Mesa University business students, Alpine Bank, the Arby’s Foundation, and Independence Academy. The Lunch Lizard also receives guidance from No Kid Hungry.

About the Grand Junction Rockies: The Rockies are a minor league baseball team based in Grand Junction, Colorado. The club is a member of the Pioneer League-South Division and is affiliated with the Colorado Rockies major league baseball organization. The GJ Rockies debuted locally in 2012.
