Attendance growing for annual Performance Based Learning summit

Grand Junction, CO – School District 51 will host the Second Annual Elevate Conference July 31 and Aug. 1, 2017, at Two Rivers Convention Center. Conference speakers will include nationally known education experts Laura Hilger and Virgil Hammonds from KnowledgeWorks, Paul Beck and Finessa Ferrell from Colorado Education Initiative, and Tom Vander Ark from Getting Smart.

The first-ever Elevate Conference brought nearly 400 educators together last summer at Palisade High School. This year, nearly 600 educators have registered to attend Elevate. Most registrants are from within District 51, with a few dozen coming from other parts of Colorado and beyond to learn about the great things going on in the district’s transformation to a Performance Based Learning model of education. Registration for the conference is now closed.

The convention will feature two full days of learning opportunities for educators interested in Performance Based Learning. Following the tenets of the district’s vision to Engage, Equip, and Empower our learning community today for a limitless tomorrow, conference sessions will help educators learn ways to:

  • Engage learners by laying a cultural foundation in the classroom that supports academic and social and emotional learning, self-awareness, self-management, and fosters a growth mindset that anyone can learn anything with enough time and effort.
  • Equip learning environments with a shared vision for success, high expectations, and effective feedback cycles.
  • Empower students to help shape their own learning and use student voice, assessment data, and content standards to inform instruction.
