Governor to join D51, CareerWise for apprenticeship signing day May 20

Grand Junction, CO – Please join us for Mesa County CareerWise Signing Day from 1:30 to 3 p.m. on Saturday, May 20, 2017, at The Avalon Theater at 645 Main St.

School District 51 and CareerWise Colorado are honored to welcome Gov. John Hickenlooper to this momentous event, which will recognize the businesses, educators, and students forging ahead with the first year of the CareerWise pilot program for youth apprenticeships. Students will “sign on” for their apprenticeships with local businesses in the fields of advanced manufacturing, business operations, technology/IT, and finance and insurance.

CareerWise Colorado will launch its first youth apprenticeships in schools within District 51 and select school districts on the northern Front Range and in metro Denver this fall. Students participating in the CareerWise pilot program will begin three- to four-year apprenticeships while still taking high school courses and learn on-the-job skills while earning a high school diploma and possibly an associate’s degree.
